Later, we applied some of our learning and tried "solar evaporation."

Clearly these shoes do not fit the kids. However, they were a perfect metaphor for choosing books that fit the reader's ability.
You know as well as I do that third graders often make overly ambitious book choices. Books that are too challenging or too easy will not help a reader improve.
Voracious reading at the appropriate level will help our third graders become skilled and competent readers with expansive vocabulary knowledge. Inappropriate books will not. Please be on the lookout at home for books that do not fit. A quick check is simply asking your child to read a portion of text and then ask the meaning of or retell what was read.
GOOD FIT PROOF!
Nothing like the fit of Nike Free.
I got second place, twice! My long streak as 3rd grade champ is over. Congratulations Carlene and Jeanne.
